This Week's Wonderful Waiting Kids

This week, I would like to ask a favor.  I have been thinking about this blog and these advocacy posts for a while now and would really like to have your opinion.  There are other wonderful advocacy websites out there, that are just that - websites that get added to whenever the owner of the site comes across a child to be advocated for.  My advocacy blog posts have been working really well but there are more and more precious children who tug at my heart and the posts are getting longer and longer.  Hubby seems to think that it is the blog post that draws potential families in.  I tend to think that a website that I could add to whenever a child tugs at my heart would be easier to navigate and easier to maintain.  I would still post in the yahoo groups once a week as a little reminder to check out the website but I just don't know!  What do you all think???  You can post a comment here or email me at 5puppies@comcast.net.  Thanks y'all!!!

OK, to start this week, I would like to remind everyone to please check out the Ways to Help/Fundraising Families page.  There are some really cool fundraisers going on and some wonderful opportunities to buy Christmas gifts AND help a sweet child come home!

I have also added a very special page.  This page is called Honour's Story.  Honour is an amazing young girl who was adopted from China at the age of 13.

Her story written by her will break your heart!  It is a must read for any family who might be considering an older child or any family who is interested in adopting at all!!!  She is a true gift and such a courageous and strong young lady who definitely knows how to write!  When I asked her mom if she would be willing to write it up for me to post on the blog, she was more than happy to share her story!  Please, please go to Honour's page and read her story.  It is long but oh how your heart will forever change!

First this week are 2 beautiful little girls who are being cared for at Shepherd's Field.  The first is sweet Noel.  Noel has CP and truly needs the love and nurturing that only a family can provide!  Just look at this very sweet video of this very sweet and happy child.  (posted with permission)

She is such a precious child and she needs a family.  Noel is 7 years old and has such potential given the support of a family.  Please email me at 5puppies@comcast.net if you think you might be her hope!!!

Next from Shepherd's Field is wonderful Hayden.

You will be seeing a lot of Hayden here as I plan to keep her on until she finds a family!  She is waiting for a family and she is waiting to be loved and she is waiting to be hugged and kissed and told how beautiful she is, despite the tumors on her sweet face.  She is waiting to get the surgery she needs to ease the pain she feels in her head every day.  Her pain comes from the pressure of the tumors growing and the doctors in China cannot seem to help her, so she is being lovingly cared for at A Shepherd's Field while she waits - and - takes - pain - meds - every - day!  There is also an amazing family who has pledged $5000 toward her adoption!

This is what her advocate wrote about this precious child:

Beautiful, sweet Hayden. She has watched most of her friends go home and she is still there. She loves to sing and dance and draw. She loves the color pink, flowers, having her nails painted, all things girly and taking care of the little ones at the facility. She loves babies! She really wants a mommy and a daddy to "love her and sing to her and cook her yummy foods".

I have heard from family after family, who have gone to Shepard's Field and met her, that she is the sweetest, most loving, most docile little thing. She takes delight in everything around her and loves talking to new people.  The American doctor at her foster facility states that "there was a biopsy done that showed it to be a 'benign lipoma', which means fatty tumor. Keep in mind that biopsy results here are not always accurate. Probably her problem would be best addressed with a combination of specialists - plastic surgeon, dermatology, pathology, cranio-facial surgeon, etc." She has had a total of 3 surgeries so far (in Beijing), but from the pictures after each one, I don't see that anything was actually done.  The foster facility is saying that currently she has a seizure disorder. He states that "it is NOT severe and is for the most part controlled by medication." When I talked to several specialists in the states about this, they thought that the seizures could be solely because of the mass on her face and once that is taken out or made smaller, it would stop touching the nerves. The doctor says her hearing and vision appear good. She does have some learning disabilities. She is somewhat slow for her age, but this could be because she is in an orphanage setting. Her nanny said it is a little difficult for her to learn in the school because of all the distractions.

This sweet child needs a family. She is another precious gift who will not have a future in China. When I think of the future she could have without the proper medical care, and without the love and support of a family, my heart just breaks. Please think about the difference you could make in the life of this wonderful little girl. Please search your heart and think about wrapping your arms around this hurting child and telling her that it will be OK, that she has a family now and that she will always be loved and that she is beautiful inside and out! If you are that family. If you feel God's pull for this child, please email me at 5puppies@comcast.net .

Next an adorable little girl who is being advocated for by LWB's.  Her name is Wendy and she is 11 years old.

This is what Suzanne from LWB's wrote about Wendy after meeting her in China:

In January, I visited an orphanage where LWB has a nutrition program. After visiting with children and seeing many adorable babies, we were almost ready to leave the orphanage. Then we saw a young girl who had just come back from school, and I was told her file had been submitted for adoption. I asked the orphanage if they would allow me to have a picture with her so that I could advocate for her adoption and they agreed.

Since I have adopted three children from China ages almost 9, almost 10 and one day away from 14 years of age, I wanted to see if I could help her also find a family. There are so many older children living in orphanages who would love nothing more than to have a family of their own!

Wendy is a healthy, extroverted and active girl. She goes to school by herself and finishes homework after school. Now that it’s summer vacation, she helps the nannies with various and sundry chores. One day, she saw a nanny carry a big package of diapers, and she immediately gave the nanny a hand. As a prize, the nanny gave her two small bags of crackers. Instead of eating it, Wendy delivered the crackers to other younger kids. When asked why, she said “I’m an older girl, and I should let them eat it.” She is quite similar to another Wendy — Wendy Darling of Peter Pan fame — in that she is very nurturing with younger children!

We would love for darling Wendy to find her own family who will nurture her right back! Please share this information with any who might be interested, and let us know if we can help.  Love Without Boundaries proudly advocates for adoption but is not an adoption agency. We invite you to contact adoptionassistance@lwbmail.com  with questions about a child we have featured and encourage you to contact your local adoption agency for more information about China’s Waiting Child Program.

Next from LWB is adorable Artie!!!

Like many of us during the holiday season, three-year-old Artie has to face the scales every once in awhile! As a participant in our nutrition program, Artie gets weighed periodically to make sure he’s growing as he should be. It looks like Artie is growing very well but could certainly indulge in a few more cookies!

Artie’s caregivers tell us that he is a boy with mild personality. Although he is also somewhat shy around strangers, a piece of cookie can make him warm up very quickly. At mealtime Artie doesn’t mind being the last one to eat. However, missing snacks can make him very upset and can even bring on the tears!  Artie understands what the nannies tell him, but at this point can only speak some simple words, like “mama” and “bye-bye,” most likely due to his cleft palate (his lip has been repaired). He has no trouble pointing out what he likes to the nannies! He also loves to be a nanny’s helper. Sometimes when the nannies changes diapers, he goes to get the bucket for the dirty diaper so that the nanny can clean things up right away.

Artie is currently available for adoption through the Waiting Children Program and is waiting for a family of his own to give him love…and lots of cookies too!  Love Without Boundaries proudly advocates for adoption but is not an adoption agency. We invite you to contact adoptionassistance@lwbmail.com  with questions about a child we have featured and encourage you to contact your local adoption agency for more information about China’s Waiting Child Program.

Next up is a group of beautiful children who are featured on Madison's yahoo group,  here

First  up is beautiful Bethany

Bethany just turned 11 years old.  How wonderful it would be for her to celebrate her 12th birthday with a family - her family!!!

Her SN is listed as Hep B and myopia.  Her file states that she is a very "sensible" girl and does things for herself more like children older than she.  It states that she is well liked by her classmates and teachers and that she does have to study to make good grades but that she likes to study!

It also states that she was abandoned at the tender age of 4 years old!  Please go read Honour's story!

You can email me at 5puppies@comcast.net for more info on this sweet child or you can email Kerry from Madison at kerry.maa@comcast.net

Next there is beautiful Allison

Allison is a healthy 12 year old child who deserves a forever family and will age out in August of next year. Not only was this precious child abandoned at birth but she was apparently taken in by the director of the orphanage and his wife and cared for until the director's wife died from cancer! She has now lost the love of 2 mothers in her life. Please go to Madison's yahoo group to view her file or email Diana at diana.maa@comcast.net  to get more info on this sweet child.

Another beautiful little girl featured with Madison is Heather

Heather is another healthy young child who will be 13 in June - dangerously close to aging out. Just look at that sweet face! She is described as "extroverted and active." She likes to "communicate and play with others!" Please, again go to Madison's Yahoo Group or email Diana at diana.maa@comcast.net  to get more info and view her file.

Next is sweet Bianca

I have watched Bianca for a while on different lists and just don't understand why she is still waiting. What a
darling little girl!

Bianca is 7 years old and is listed as having SLIGHT Cerebral Palsy. It also sounds like she has come a long way and is VERY determined (hmmmm, sounds like a little Lizzie that I know - heh). Just from reading her file, I can tell you that this child will inspire any family willing to give her a chance! Again, you can go to Madison's Yahoo Group or email Diana at diana.maa@comcast.net  to find out more info and view her file.

Madison also has some precious children listed with them through their camps and their special focus kids, like:

Beautiful Carrie

This is what Diana wrote about this precious child:

Carrie is one of the very special children we met in Tianjin in Feb. 2009. She has CP, but believe me, it doesn't slow her down. Carrie's first placement also did not work out, but a friend at Tianjin has assured me that she also desperately wants a family. She is fiesty and fun, but ever so sweet and kind.

Madison has waived the agency fee and the orphanage donation has been reduced. Please email Diana at diana.maa@comcast.net   about this beautiful little girl!

Next on their list is beautiful Vivian

who is described as "a darling girl who grabs your heart immediately!" Sara from Madison interviewed her and said that she has "a gentle and caring character and is very outgoing." She wants to be a teacher when she grows up and her favorite pet is a cat!

Vivian has minor hearing loss but her mental development is normal. She is a bit shy and slightly self conscious about her appearance. Poor child!! Sara noticed that she is "obviously greatly loved by her caretakers." Please someone, search your heart for this wonderful child. She is one who will not have a future unless she finds a loving family who can make her feel as beautiful as she is!!!  Please contact Diana at diana.maa@comcast.net  for more info on this sweet child!

Next up is adorable Dell

Dell is 10 years old and is listed as having "congenital absence of forearm, hand and left upper limb."  He is too cute, please go read about him.  He is on the shared list but is featured on Madison's yahoo group.
Please if you are interested in any of these precious kids, please join Madison's yahoo group, here or email Diana at diana.maa@comcast.net

Next is  beautiful little girl who will break your heart!  Her name is Yaru.  She has CP and she is 12 years old.

This is what an advocate friend wrote about precious Yaru:

From her video, it seemed the CP primarily affected her upper limbs - she seemed to walk quite well.  The video I saw of Yaru revealed a happy, joyful girl - and very smart! Another video of her however was heart-breaking - she broke down in tears and sobbed saying what she most wanted was a "Baba" and a "Mama!" So hard to watch.  She also wanted to let prospective parents know she was trying to learn English. She gave a big "Hello!" to the interviewers and radiated a huge smile.

Oh my heart!  It is breaking for this sweet child.  Please think about giving her what she most wants in life and what every child deserves - Mama and a Baba!!!!  Email me at 5puppies@comcast.net if you think you might be this wonderful little girl's family!!!

Next are some beautiful children from Children's Home Society and Family Services.

Lastly from CHSFS is finally a beautiful little girl.  She is 6 years old and is precious

This is what is written about this beautiful child:

ID #210-91 This girl with the sweet smile and the short hair cut was born in 2004. She is in school and doing well. She has a good sense of humor and a good imagination. She interacts well with adults and children. She enjoys playing with other children and is kind to little kids. She understands sharing and taking turns. Her favorite activity is playing outdoors and she like the dolls in the cartoon movie named “Xi Yang Yang.” She is outgoing, active and social. She occasionally loses her temper---sounds like a typical six- year-old! She is a good eater and sleeper. She is self sufficient in daily personal care. The right side of her body has some restrictions. She can carry things with her right hand/arm but not heavy things. She can walk, run, skip and hop but she cannot hop on her right foot. She can go up and down stairs without a problem. The foster mother says she is a normal child. More information and photos are available for this girl from the Special Focus Program.

To find out more about any of the children featured at CHSFS, please contact a Waiting Child team member via email at intchild@chsfs.org  or call 651-646-7771 or 800-952-9302.  There are many other precious children on their list as well!!!

Next are a large group of girls who are featured on WACAP's site.  Most are on the shared list but are being featured on their site with available grants (those are the girls whose pics are included here) and a few are on their designated list and I am not able to post their pics, but you can go to WACAP's site, here to request a password to see their pics and get more info.

The first little girl was a part of their camp and even though she has a "facial deformity," she is simply beautiful!  Her ID # is JH4.ZYZ.0304.31090.01 and this is what is written about this precious child, who because she has a "facial deformity," will not have a future in China!

She is described as being a little shy around strangers, but when she becomes more familiar with people she is very talkative. Her caregivers are obviously quite fond of her because they describe her as “naughty” which is seen as a very positive trait in a young child and is often used to describe a child who is inquisitive, active, and curious. She likes to sing. She enjoys going to school where she can play with toys – especially the bikes. When we asked her what her favorite animal was, she said that she likes little dogs. She was born with a cleft lip and palate as well as other facial abnormalities. Her speech is very clear and her nanny says that she is just as smart as all of the other little children. She lives in a foster family. She is very affectionate and we saw her take her caregiver’s hand several times for comfort while we asked her questions. By the end of our interview, she had warmed up enough to pose for the camera. She is an affectionate child who needs the love that only a permanent family can give her.
There is a $4200 Promise Child grant for eligible families for this adoption and a possible additional fee reduction. Please contact a Family Finders Case Manager for more information.

Next is another adorable little girl who is 7 years old and needs a family to put a smile on that precious face!  She is on the shared list.  Her ID # is XRF.LDF1203.01 and this is what is written about this beautiful little girl!

Next is a beautiful little girl who really tugs at my heart! This precious child is 12 years old and is on the shared list! Dangerously close to aging out!! Look how beautiful this child is...

I think she looks just like a beautiful ballerina! She has spina bifida and some slight anemia. Please consider this precious child before it is too late for her.

Her ID# is XRF.JZ1098.01

This young lady is smart, active and helpful according to her care givers. She is outgoing and talkative and gets along well with her friends. She is considered studious. She likes singing songs, playing games and watching television. She has had surgery for Spina Bifida and walks with orthopedic instruments on both feet. She also has a moderate level of anemia. Through WACAP, there is a $2200 Promise Child grant for eligible families for this adoption.

Next are 2 little girls who were a part of WACAP's camp.

The first I am calling May!  May is a beautiful little girl who is listed as having LD's and is 5 years old. I cannot post her pic but I have seen her video and she is adorable and just incredible!  Her ID# is JH4.WLM.0605.31082.01 and this is what is written about this adorable child.

She is a cheerful and affectionate little girl who likes to be very helpful! She said that when she grows up, she wants to help her mom sweep the floor! She told us that she enjoys eating strawberries and watermelon. Her favorite toy is to play with balls, and she also enjoys riding a bike. We observed her riding a tricycle and she does very well pedaling! This is quite impressive because her legs are unable to straighten more than about 90 degrees at the knee. She is able to get around very quickly and has developed her own way of walking using both her hands and feet. She goes to kindergarten at the institute, but lives in a foster family in the community. She is able to dress herself a little. She can’t balance well over the toilet, so she needs someone to hold her over it when she goes, but she is able to tell her caregivers when she needs to use the bathroom and she is able to remove her pants. She is a little shy with strangers, but gets along well with others. Her caregivers say that she is quite talkative once she gets to know you. She is a very sweet little girl and giggled while she playfully chased her nanny around the room at the end of our interview. There is a $2200 Promise Child grant for eligible families for this adoption and a possible additional fee reduction. Please contact a Family Finders Case Manager for more information.

Please ask to see this child's file.  She has such wonderful potential if only she could find a family to provide the opportunity to her!  She has learned to make the best of her situation but oh my how she could blossom with the love and support of a family.

This next little girl has completely stolen my heart!  I have seen her video as well and this child desperately needs a family.  She just looks so lost!  I pray she finds that family!  She needs to have a Momma and her Baba wrap their arms around her and hold her close and love her forever!  I have named her Winnie and she is an adorable little girl who is listed as having LD's. She is 6 years old and her ID# is JH4.ZWX.0304.31088.01. This is what is written about this precious child:

She was very shy when she met us, but her nannies report that she is usually very outgoing. She enjoys going to school and doing exercises and singing. When we asked her what her favorite toy was, she said that she liked riding on bikes. She is unable to bend her elbows or lift her arms very high and both of her feet are clubbed, but she is able to get around very well on her own. She is very interested in activities in school and participates in everything. She helps others complete their work. She receives a little bit of physical therapy at the institute. She has some strength in her hands and is able to grip objects. She can walk on her own without a walker and when she dropped a toy, we saw her bend down to pick it up off the floor. Although she has several physical disabilities, she doesn’t allow them to slow her down one bit! She would like to be a teacher when she grows up because she thinks that teachers are powerful! She will need a family of her own to help her reach her full potential. There is a $4200 Promise Child grant for eligible families for this adoption and a possible additional fee reduction. Please contact a Family Finders Case Manager for more information.

You just have to go to WACAP's website to see these 2 precious girls' pictures! They are very special!!! Please, please also look at all their kids. There are so many ones on that list!  You have to request a password but they are very quick to respond!!
Next a precious little girl whom I have advocated for many times.  Right now, she is being featured on the Bringing Hope to Children website but her file is about to be returned.  Please someone take a look at this darling little girl's file. It sounds like her CP is mild and her greatest desire is "her own mother and father!" Please consider making her dreams come true!

This is what is written about this sweet child:

She has CP athetosis.

WLZ is an active little girl, happy and curious, sweat smiles on her face all the time. She is a very lovely child, very independent, she dresses herself, takes bath, washes her own hair and does chores such as washing dishes, clearing rooms, and taking care of garbage. She is a warm hearted child, gets along with the other kids very well, and always loving helping the others as much as she can. She is taking care of the brother and sister (foster home’s) very well, she is a very honest child. She is in little sister class of “the half sky”, who understands the teachers, and learns well. Her speech is clearer, and can describe an event, counts from 1-100; knows the concept of amount;she can do addition and abstract within 10 by heart; and math problems of adding two digits to one digit( such as 10+8=; 22+5=). She walks normal and balance well in the rooms, gets on and off steps by herself;but not used to fast walking in outside road, she needs help on high hill road, she can get on and off the bus by herself. She has many interests, watches TV ;singing, playing outdoor games with her “brothers and sisters”, she can sing several songs by her own. She eats well, eats many things but “tofu Chinese soft bean cube” and fish. She is a healthy girl. WLZ is a very kind heart, polite and independent girl. We are hoping that she can have a family of her own, and grows up happily.

Also being featured on the Bringing Hope to Children website is adorable YD, who I have featured before

He now has a $3000 donation toward his adoption! Please someone take a look this wonderful little boy! Just look at that smile! His file is to be sent back soon as well.  Here is what is written about this precious child along with an update!

YD is a bright, happy and energetic little boy who is 6 years old. He attends school and is very helpful to the nannies at the orphanage. He has a wonderful disposition and his friends enjoy playing with him. YD has had two surgeries to correct his club feet; a third surgery was being planned in 2008 but we have not received a report with any details on that procedure. He walks without a problem and has the use of both hands. He has use of at least some of his fingers, but could really benefit from some therapy to improve his fine motor skills. YD is an all-around great little guy who would be such a wonderful addition to someone's family! There is a $3,000 grant available toward his adoption expenses which has been provided by someone who really wants this special boy to find a family.

New info: YD is now 114cm tall and weighs 23kg. He has not has any serious illnesses, but has had a cold and cough in bad weather. He wears corrective shoes for his club feet which, along with the previous surgeries, have resulted in improvement in their positioning. He can walk normally and stands very straight. He is developing on target. YD is in the first grade, doing well in both language and math. He is an independent boy, who washes his face when he gets up and washes his feet before bed. He dresses himself and helps the adults with chores. He is an outgoing boy, who gets along with the other children very well and is a favorite of the nannies

Last from BHTC  is GBZ

This beautiful little girl has also been on the lists for a while. She is 8 years old and is listed as having Hep B. This is what is written about this sweet child:

GBZ is cute as a bug! She is 8 years old and has been in care since she was 3. GBZ is a good helper to her foster mother and is friendly to people who visit, although she can be a bit shy at first. She goes to school but needs to be reminded to study harder; she would much rather play with her friends. She loves to play outside on the slide and enjoys playing with dolls with her friends. GBZ tests positive for HepB. She has two very small growths close to her left ear which might need to be removed. GBZ is a happy and loving little girl. She has been well-loved by her foster family and is now ready to have a family of her own. She is described as "a kind girl with a loving heart". What a wonderful daughter she will be!

  7. I really like reading your blog along with the advocacy posts. While having a dedicated advocacy site would be easier to navigate for people that are just there to check out the kids, I might also think that having both would cause more people to see the kids that wouldn't tend to go to the advocacy site. HMM...

  8. Dear Annie,
You are ripping my heart straight outta my chest... i am purposely not visiting any adoption websites because I just can't take it. So when your post title shows up on my google reader I take a deep breath and try to harden my heart so I can scroll through without bawling. Why oh why do i have to have limits on the things i can accomplish in a day, or only enough seats in my van, or only so many bedrooms.... i would bring all these kiddos home if I could....your killing me, but keep it up!

  9. Dear Annie;
I can only imagine how time consuming the advocacy postes are, and you need to budget your limited time as you see fit....BUT speaking for myself, I know I've had my heart broken for children you've posted that wouldn't have shown up on some of my searches, due to age or gender and I don't think I'm the only one who finds themselves stretched beyond what they originally thought they could handle, or what they originally thought they wanted, due in large part to these posts tucked into your blog....so I guess I'm voting that the advocacy posts stay!

  10. You do an amazing job posting about waiting kids. It has to be very time consuming...and very real to your heart (and mine). If you want to keep your blog for both a family site and an advocacy site, you can easily do that by adding it to your navigation bar. And/or you could add a 'button' to click on the side bar. My daughter Alexis could help you with anything related to blog or website design. Contact her with questions and maybe she could help you decide. It's possible to have an advocacy blog separate and then combine the two with the navigation bar...resulting in a blogsite..which looks like a website. :)

  11. I have been torn on this one! That is why I have not commented sooner. What about starting the new advocacy site and then just put the link on your site and/or each of your posts as a reminder to go check it out? It would be so much easier on you and less time consuming for you if you had a seperate site. I do look forward to your weekly posts on the children; but, as long as I still have access to updates, I can survive. :) I am waiting to hear that little Bree's family finds her soon! They are all cuties; but, she has really been tugging at me lately. I know you will make the right decision.
