Happy Father's Day - one day late

Happy Father's Day to all the awesome Dads out there.

I lost my Dad a few years back and miss him so much on days like today.

He hated being the center of attention and would always tell us not to do anything special for him on this day - or any day.

We always did because we loved him and he always smiled and pretended to enjoy it because he loved us, but I always knew it felt awkward to him...

cause the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, if ya know what I mean.

Don't ever throw me a surprise party!
Bleh!

I miss him, my kindred spirit...

but I know that he will be watching over us as we bring Lucy and Maggie home and oh boy how he would have loved all these girls!

He loved his grandsons so much but how he would have surely doted on all of his precious granddaughters!

Miss you Daddy.

Now the other Dad in my life has no problem being in the spotlight...

and will take any opportunity to draw attention to himself....

and doesn't feel a bit awkward having others celebrate him.

hehe

Honestly, that is one of the things that first attracted me to him, that and the fact that we had matching dogs - long story - hehe!

Please excuse the 90's hairdo - ugh!

Anyway, Hubby is full of confidence and strength and humor and smarts and compassion and love and with each precious child, his heart just seems to grow and grow.

Christian and Charlie were absent from the pics because they are attending our church's summer camp this week - not because they were acting like teenagers - hehe!

We have been through some tough times in the past few years but we have become stronger both together as a couple and individually in our faith and what a beautiful journey it has been.

As I sit here tonight, thinking about all that has past and all that is yet to come, my heart keeps going to our two, new, beautiful girls who have yet to know what it is like to be loved and cherished as a father loves and cherishes a daughter and I just cannot wait to watch that relationship grow, as they unravel the depth of Hubby's unconditional love for them.

It will be breath taking.

Hubby and I have learned a lot about unconditional love over the past few years, the love of our heavenly Father, the true understanding and believing that He has our backs, is always working for us and forgives us no matter what and now we get to share that love with Lucy and Maggie as we have been sharing it with Christian and Charlie and Caleb and Emmeline and Lizzie and...

again, Christian and Charlie - camp - not just being moody teens - ha - Caleb taking pic!
we are so blessed!

Happy Father's Day my love and just remember as the girls begin to outnumber the boys in our little family...

By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong.
Charles Wadsworth

That's a good one to remember in the midst of the drama and the sassy-ness and the boyfriends (gulp) and the clothes and the hormones and the weddings (double gulp)!!

We love you - always!

  2. I love the picture of you as a little girl and the picture of your matching dogs is hilarious! I lost my dad when I was sixteen and he was an awful lot like Chris - funny, outgoing, and loving, he was crazy with my brother, and he treated me like a princess. Chris' post about FuFu awhile back was so powerful - his dedication to the Lord inspired me so much. Father's Day is still a rough day for me and I'm partially glad for it to be over, although I shared some new status updates and photos on Facebook and then exchanged messages with an old friend of my dad's. Reading this post and being reminded of Chris and his similarities to my own dad has comforted me even more - thank you!

    1. Aw, sweet Jennifer, what a lovely comment, thank you! I am so sorry that you lost your dad at such a young age. I remember you telling me about him a while back. It sounds like he was an awesome father! I wanted to also let you know that sweet Evie (do you remember her?) with SB, has a wonderful, awesome family!!!! You reviewed her file for me and thought she looked really good. Remember, she wants to be a doctor!!! Praise the Lord! Thank you for always being so willing to help!

  4. What a sweet post to honor the Dads in your life. I love the older pictures of your childhood. I lost my dad 14 years ago and I miss him and the memories we could have made with my growing family. I'm sure you know what I mean.

  6. Your Dad looks so gentle, kind and loving and I absolutely love the photo of him holding the little kitten. I am sure he is watching over all of you. Your husband looks like a wonderful, supportive and fun Dad! I love the fact that you had matching dogs. That is a very important factor in a relationship ;) I would not have dated my boyfriend if my cats and dogs didn't love him ;)
