Flat!

As in tire!!!

Yes, the dreaded flat tire - on a major highway - with big trucks - and hubby out of town - UGH!!!

However...

On this day...

On this major highway...

With big trucks...

And hubby out of town...

In ride my knights in shining armour...

My boys!!!

Christian and Charlie knew exactly what to do to change the tire

and Caleb was left in charge of the pretty ballerinas in the car

who never made it to dance class that day!

It was an adventure!

We did have one sweet soul stop and help, but only one! I mean we were in a minivan with 3 young boys and 2 pretty ballerinas. How could all those other motorists resist???? Hehe!!

I have mentioned how much I love having boys???

A break in the weather!!

Last week we had such a surprise!

We had one wonderful, glorious week of temps actually below 90 degrees!!

Which meant the heat index was actually below 100 degrees! Yeah baby!!!

Which meant that we were headed to the park, picnic in hand!!

It was such a beautiful day and none of us were little puddles of sweat by the end of it...

however hard they tried!!

Please tell me what it is about boys and wrestling???

They have even corrupted the girls - or maybe it's the other way 'round??? Sigh!!

Aside from our brush with WWF fame, we had a great day and stayed all day!!

Sliding

and climbing

and swinging

and yes, spinning!!

Hence the name, "Dizzy Lizzie!"

Well, it was nice while it lasted, but this is the South and while sweaters at night in June is awfully nice for a change - it just ain't right, ya'll!!!

So now we're back to bath tub like pools, frizzy hair and nights with no relief and all is right with the world!!! Hehe!!

Bloggy Help!!!

I have a bloggy question for those "in the know!"

I have been trying to do some upgrading on my blog and am getting a bit, um...

FRUSTRATED!!!!

I am so bloggy challenged - sigh!!!

Anyway, I figured out how to add pages and would love to add all of my "waiting kids" posts, but I cannot get my old "waiting kids" posts in the new page. Does anybody know if you can put old posts into new pages and if so, how do you do it????

I also had to get rid of my doggie daily visitor counter. It just stopped working and I would love to find another. Does anybody know of a site that has free daily visitor counters?

Thanks so much everyone. I hope to soon be back on my computer, with all of my stuff and happily blogging along!!!!!

Hehe!!

Sunday Snapshot - Happy Independance Day!

We had no plans this day. We usually do, but not this year. We planned nothing but we had fun.

We started the day at Church where we sang God Bless America and The Star Spangled Banner. What a great way to start your 4th of July!

Next was a trip to the pool in the pick up truck.

My Dad's old pick up truck!

Then there were handstands

and piggy backs from big brothers

as well as lots of flying acrobats!!

The kids were getting along - whoo hoo - and everyone was having fun.

Until...

My poor little Lizzie fell

No worries though,

Cinnamon Graham Crackers make it all better:)

What???? You never heard of the cinnamon graham cracker bandaid??? Works every time!

Next up...

Brownie Ice Cream Sundae's

on the porch

YUM!!

Towels hanging to dry on the front porch is a sure sign of summer round here and they came in handy after those sundae's!!!

The day ended with sidewalk chalk portraits

froggy finds

and fireworks from the neighborhood dock!

Sorry the picture of the fireworks is so bad but we were VERY far away. It was great though! From the dock we were able to see all 5 fireworks displays around town. They may have been far away BUT, we weren't in a mob of people either, just the young couple we ran off after all 5 of our little but LOUD crew ran down the dock!!! Sorry guys, but that is sometimes how you end up with 5 loud little people, so you can thank us later!! Hehe!!!

Whew!!!

If we had nothing planned for the 4th of July, then why am I so tired???

Happy 4th of July!! To check out more Sunday Snapshots go here,

Weighted what?????

We went to the beach yesterday. We usually go to the beach quite a bit each summer, but this was our first trip this summer. Everybody was looking forward to it.

Everybody except Caleb, that is. Caleb is my sensory kid and he struggles some days. Caleb was worried about the sand getting in his bathing suit and he just did not want to go to the beach!

Lizzie has struggled with some of the same sensory type issues but (dare I say) I am beginning to see some improvement in her. I have hope that perhaps some of the sensory issues she deals with will continue to fade and that she is not destined to constantly battle the effects of the first 2 years of her life.

Hope that her birth parents weren't riddled with sensory issues as her adoptive momma is!! So Lizzie wasn't thrilled about getting sandy either but she was excited about the beach, all the same.

Knowing that Caleb was having a hard time with this, I decided to try something that I had accidentally discovered one night when he was having a hard time going to sleep.

One night a couple of weeks ago, Caleb was scared. We have been trying to work through this with him for a while now but he is scared of the images he sees when he closes his eyes at night. As you can imagine, this makes it very hard for him to fall asleep. One night, as I was tucking him back into his bed - again - I moved one of his pillows for a moment and just laid it on top of him. Caleb immediately told me to leave it there, that it felt good to have the pillow on top of him.

So I did - and - he went to sleep!

Now as I thought about this, I remembered reading somewhere about weighted blankets for people with sensory issues and I realized that I had just created our own weighted blanket for my sweet boy. You can read about weighted blankets and SID, here.

I made sure we used our pillow/homemade weighted blanket the night before the beach trip and sure enough, Caleb had fun!

He was sandy but he had fun.

As a matter of fact, he was the one I was constantly having to watch to make sure he didn't go out to far and the one who just didn't want to stop boogy boarding, even though he was developing quite a rash on his tummy!

Normally, this would have put him over the top - but not this day!

It was difficult to even get him to share the boogy board with his sisters, but he finally relented and shared the rash - I mean the board!! Hehe!!

He even played soccer on the beach with his brothers and fell face first in the sand - without complaint!

I wish I had gotten more pics because I do so LOVE taking pics on the beach but my battery was dying - sigh!! Have I mentioned that I want a new camera?? Heh!

So anyone who is dealing with the puzzlement that is Sensory Integration Disorder, you might just try our pillow method!!

You may also want to check out this website on how to make your own weighted blanket. Obviously this is not for the non-talented person like myself!!! Sounds great, but I think I will have to stick with my trusty pillow for now!!
