Sunday Snapshot - Relapse

My wonderful Lizzie

your sweet, beautiful little foot is relapsing.

Sigh...

We knew it could happen

you were older (by casting standards) and had been walking and running on that perfect little upside down, turned around, precious foot for quite a while.

We were hoping it wouldn't happen

but it did.

I now find myself lost in the thoughts of all those doctor appointments and all of those casts and what an amazing trooper you were

you endured 18 different clubfoot casts

and skin that just did not like being casted so many times - in the heat of the summer - a southern summer.

You told me that you loved me back for the very first time at one of your many clubfoot casting appointments even though your skin too fragile to recast and you - just - had - to - be - hurting.

video

Even through the pain, you just forged ahead and were determined to love us and trust us and to live your new life

video

You enjoyed every minute

cast or not.

  video video

As soon as you were done with the castings

you went straight into the brace

for a very long time but

you were ready to amaze us again when you figured out how to walk in that brace

video

We called it the brace shuffle

You put that brace on every single night for 3 1/2 years and as I stated in blog post long ago, just the mere mention of having to get another cast on was enough to get you to put that brace on with a smile on your face and now here we are.

Once again, you are handling the news with such strength and grace.

You were not happy at first and are still asking why but after finding out that I would NOT leave you and that we could order P*pa J*hns Pizza in the hospital, you recovered very quickly

After you found out that you might be in a wheelchair, you were positively giddy thinking about all the wheelies you could do and who would get to push you!

Oh the resilience of a 5 year old's mind.

So, I am asking for prayers

Prayers for my sweet Lizzie, prayers that the Lord will just lift her up during all of this, that she will feel His presence and find comfort there.

I ask for prayers for us, to be able to make the right decisions for her, the right doctors and the right treatment and to be able to feel peace about those decisions.

Lizzie will miss the entire soccer season

A fact that she has not considered yet

but her coach Daddy sure has!  Hehe!

video

Matter of fact it was one of his first thoughts!  Heh!

Lizzie may also have to miss school for a while

and will be more dependent on us that she has been in a long time and that will pose it's own challenges and setbacks.

Lizzie won't be able to just go outside and play or take a bath or ride her bike or go to the bathroom by herself or play on the playground, or, or, or

It will be tough

but Lizzie will be tougher

and I know that it is only temporary and praise the Lord that the medical care is there to be able to help her and her beautiful little foot.

However, my heart just hurts that she will have to go through this again and I ask for prayers.

Lizzie my darling, you are amazing and inspiring and I have no doubt that YOU will handle this way better than I!

We love you sweet girl and I have a feeling that in the not too distant future, there will be several blog posts about wheelchairs and big brothers and oh I don't know maybe a ramp or two!

Oh my!

  9. Dear Lord, Thank you for Annie's large heart to love what you love! Thank you for sweet Lizzie! I pray Lord that you will give Annie and Chris wisdom as to what doctors to visit, what treatment courses to take, and help them to rest in your arms as the healing is in your Hands. I pray Lord, that you would heal Lizzie's foot! I pray that you would continue to allow Lizze to find contentment - what a gift that will be as she grows! I pray Lord that you would use this "setback" to draw this family ever closer to you! In Jesus' name, Amen
    I'll keep praying, friend!

  10. Annie,

Well I was thinking poor Lizzie and I still ache for her, but knowing what a trooper she is and what God could be building in her character through this, I know something good will come of it and Lizzie will be the stronger for having gone through it. I know God is going to use that little girl!

We should pray for you, her mommy, since it will hurt you watching your little Lizzie go through this! And we are praying here for Lizzie and you, and the entire family!

Give Lizzie a hug from us! And consider yourself hugged too! :)

    Hugs,
    Tammy

  11. We will keep her in our prayers! And you all too. I know that Eric would have thought of the soccer too. Not because it's "important" but because it's something we all share in together and enjoy as a family. I know that's what your hubby is thinking! Lizzie is such a trooper and she'll do great despite difficult days. Hang in there Annie! I know it has to be so hard to watch her go through difficulties!

  14. Oh no! I am so sorry to read this Annie... poor Lizzie :(
We only recently took Jude out of his brace, we tried when he turned 5 and that foot stiffened right up! We are headed back to Iowa next month and will see what Dr. Morcuende thinks... there is a chance our Jude might need the tendon transfer surgery. Is that what Lizzie is getting?
    Sending BIG hugs!!

  17. I know that Lizzie is likely going to have a few difficult moments through this trial, but she is so determined and optimistic that I just know she's going to emerge from this with even more strength and beauty. If it's any consolation, I'll tell you that this is going to be much harder for you than it will be for her - when my friends and I look back at the medical issues we experienced as children, we all agree that it was more difficult for our parents to watch us go through pain and limitations than it was for us to experience them ourselves. I had both of my legs in casts for many months at age nine and it was hard to lose my total independence, so I can imagine how hard it will be. Kids are so resilient - especially that girl! You are such an amazing mom and I know you'll lead her through this in such an awesome way. Praying for you both!
