Sweet Lemonade

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Matthew 19:13-15

This verse came to me as I began to write this post.

Obviously children are on my heart but this verse came to me because of one child in particular.

You see, ever since we announced that we were adopting again, this wonderful adoption community has just rallied around us, showing us such generosity and such support.

We have been amazed and inspired and humbled by the love that has been shown to us and our precious XM.

but yesterday one sweet child brought me to my knees!

To back up a bit, when the girls were 3 years old, they attended a small, church preschool that was just such a loving, fun place to be three!

They were in separate classes as Lizzie worked to "catch up" and I learned that 3 hours with no kiddos feels more like 3 minutes!

Just sayin...

Anyway, Lizzie's teacher just happen to be a wonderful "mom" who also had a daughter from China!

WOW!

I will call her "Darlin" for this blog post and yes, I have to leave the "g" off the end cause that is just how I say it!  Sorry, it's just the south in me!

Mrs. C. was awesome and Lizzie LOVED her class.

Mrs. C. was patient and kind and loved to laugh and that is exactly what Lizzie needed.

Sadly, after that year, the school closed and everyone went their separate ways.

However, the Lord kept putting Mrs. C. and Em's wonderful teacher, Mrs. H. in our path and especially so after we found our precious XM.

One day, not too long ago, we ran into Mrs. C. at the grocery store (another blog post in the making - hehe) and we were talking about our kids and about our adoption/fund raising efforts.

Little did I know that the Lord was working on Darlin's heart.

About a week or so later, Mrs. C. sent me a message through FB telling me that her wonderful Darlin wanted to set up a lemonade stand in their neighborhood...

and that she wanted to donate all of her proceeds to our adoption!!!!

WOW!

To say that my heart was moved would be an understatement.

To say that this meant the world to us would be putting it mildly.

The true and sincere love of a child for another in need is a beautiful thing.

The desire to help those whom the Lord commands us to help, from the pure heart of a child, a child who was once in a position of need herself, is inspirational and a testament to how we should all be living our lives.

I know that most of you who read my blog, "get it" but tragically, most of the world just does not.

Darlin "gets it!"

At 9 years old, she "gets it" and I praise the Lord for Darlin and her wonderful family who has helped us to strengthen our trust that the Lord is working and working in such beautiful ways!

So ya wanna know how much this precious child raised for our precious child???

$150!!!!

Now that is some good lemonade, y'all, made even better cause it was made with love!

Thank you sweet Darlin and thank you Mrs. C. for blessing us in so many ways yesterday and beyond!

  2. Girl, your blog encourages me in ways that you can never imagine! I love to see everyone surrounding you in love. We, too, are in the process of adopting from China and sometimes the money factor overwhelms me. When I feel this way, I think about your upbeat, positive, Jesus lovin' self and remind myself how blessed we all are! I am praying for you guys and know God has the perfect plan for you all! You are an amazing person and the work that you do for these sweet orphans puts me to shame. My oldest is in China right now working with these sweet little ones and I am reminded time and time again that it's not about us, it's about HIM! Through HIM this work will be completed and done. Not us, all HIM! Thank you for sharing your struggles but most of all thank you for showing how God is working through all of this! ~Aimee Akin (we've talked some through email!)
