Well, according to our sweet girl's file, her birthday is not until mid April...
however, the hospital celebrated just a bit early....
like a couple of weeks ago...
I am SO not complaining, a bit confused but NOT complaining...
she is not crying in any of the pics - not smiling yet but so not crying and...
THEY BOUGHT HER A CAKE AND CELEBRATED HER BIRTHDAY!
WOW!
Yep, I so know this look! I am certain she is thinking, "Now where is that family of mine! Late as usual!!!" |
Now, we are going to send her a fruit party for her birthday in about 8 days, as we were told they don't get fruit very often and we want to help our sweet child celebrate too, so...
maybe the fruit will elicit a smile or maybe....
Lucy just needs her Momma!
Sweet Lucy!! She is precious! I cannot wait to see the real Lucy when her face lights up with a true smile!! She does need her mommy! And I stay confused about birthdays and China also. One person says he's 12, he says he's 10, he thought his birthday was one day... Oh well!! At least he's here. Thank you for sharing your journey!!
ReplyDeleteThank you and they do count birthdays differently. I think they say they are the age they will turn in that year, so if they will turn 10 on June 6th, at the start of that year, they will begin to say that they are 10 - I think:)
DeleteHmm....maybe they celebrated all April birthdays? Well I think she needs her mommy and what a transformation we'll see when she's where she belongs! I can tell she's full of personality! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your beautiful Lucy! (How old is she Annie?)
Hugs,
Tammy
Nope, according to my contact, he went with the director's son to buy the cake for Lucy:) The video (yes there was video but not very good video - hehe), shows just Lucy lighting the candle and cutting the cake - with help from a nurse. Thanks Tammy! I can tell by those looks that she is full to the brim with personality! LOL! She is about to turn 9.
DeleteOh goodness she is Puh-recious!! My eyes are glued to those sweet ones laying in those cribs behind the party. Oh sweet Jesus be near.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sonia and amen....
DeleteHappy Birthday (a bit early) to sweet Lucy! Can't wait to see her in her mommy's arms.
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Amy!
DeleteShe is beautiful! Not crying is always a good thing! I can't wait to read that you are on your way to get your sweet girl!
ReplyDeleteThank you sweet Vicky!
DeleteLOVED every single photo!!! And YES, that baby just needs her Momma!!!!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon!!!
DeleteI've been reading your wonderful blog for some time so here's my first comment -- Yes, the Chinese calculate birthdays differently. Our "Chinese age" is always a year older than our age from birth, because the Chinese believe that a baby is sentient and "born" into the world from conception, hence babies are said to be 9 months old from birth. In rural areas, where many people do not have birth documentation, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year is celebrated as "everyone's birthday" and Winter Solstice is the day we are considered to have aged by a year. So when the Chinese tell you they are xxx years old, it's safe to subtract a year. Confusing, I know, and it's not easy to tell an Asian's age from physical appearance. They look young for years and then - BOOM - they age. It's not politically incorrect for me to say all this simply because I too am Chinese by ethnicity, haha!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, thank you for explaining this!!!!
DeleteStrange, isn't it, that an entire culture that believes in the sentience of unborn children would then abandon children in government orphanages and hospitals? It's not only in China. In many Asian countries as well. Abandoned for being born a girl, being born on an "inauspicious" date, or because some family member died on the day he/she was born and therefore the child is believed to bring bad luck, for being lefthanded, cross-eyed, et cetera. It's heartbreaking. I started reading your blog because of my interest in adoption. There are underprivileged and needy children in much of Southeast Asia as well, especially baby girls who are at risk of abuse and trafficking.
DeleteYes, so very sad! I pray that more and more hearts will be moved for these children and that their cultures will understand the blessings that these precious ones are. Thank you CovertOperations!
DeleteHappy bday sweet loved child!
ReplyDeleteHugs to u & waiting mama,
~donna
Thank you sweet Donna!
DeleteShe just isn't smiling because she is also completely confused as to why they are celebrating her birthday so early. She is thinking, "I will eat your cake, but you have it all wrong."
ReplyDeleteToo funny Tricia!!! She does have that look, doesn't she!!! LOL!
